Stephanie Wynn and Stephen McCoy’s guest lectures seminar were so interesting! They explained that they both love photography when in university and wanted to pursue it professionally after. Now, they run their own commercial photography business which specialises in architecture, interiors, and landscape projects. Working with UK and international clients, Wynne McCoy create high quality, creative and professional photography to many different types of briefs.
Stephen explained that he too felt lost after finishing university, the question of ‘What do you do next?’ and ‘How do you make money afterwards?’ were what he was asking himself at the time. This absolutely resonated with me as I feel I am too asking myself where I go from here now that I am nearing the end of my degree. They explained that they’ve gotten to where they are today by networking and making contacts. Putting together a professional portfolio or brochure and canvassing around the area to seek out people who were willing to talk to them helped them make much needed connections in the area. They also surveyed people who were buying/requesting photography-based contracts to put themselves forward for the job. This strategy paid off, and they have now been working for over 20 years together.
I think most importantly, Wynne McCoy have established the need for networking and creating contacts. This is something that would be extremely helpful to me as it would give me a chance to meet new people and get to know professionals in the field. I think my own issue is that I struggle not to feel nervous around new people and can often come across as shy. But I’m sure with some practise, I won’t feel so anxious with networking.
