Degree Show Preparation

The end of year degree show is a showcase of all of our hard work for not only the past year, but also to exhibit our growth as artists for the past three years. It shows our built up body of practise, but also is a quantifiable way in which we can be assessed. It's a celebration, a culmination of our hard work as well as being the marker of the end of our three year degree.
As part of the preparation, we have been thinking of ideas for the title and design of the show. With many different disciplines, it needs to be broad enough to encompass all students as well as being specific enough to invite our audiences to understand our message. Myself and group of students have collectively worked upon a number of ideas for the title and aesthetic of the show. We each started with a list of words that meant something to us, or were significant of representing our time at university, and from there we whittled it down to a handful of words. From there, we searched online for images that resonated with us, often searching for the words we had chosen and scanning the images which suited us best. Finally, we accompanied these words with the images, before piling it all together and looking at what we had come up with. Below is a selection of the pieces we have compiled.

As I come the end of my final year, I’m finding that I’m unsure on which piece to display in the show, or whether I wish to create other works which embody my practise and year thus far. This work must of course display my personal practise and represent my journey thus far on the course. It’s a lot of pressure to put on one pivotal moment.
My intentions at the start of this year were to continue with my physical painting, exploring core themes of my work via various mediums such as acrylic, oil and pastels. Yet as lockdown (1, 2, & 3, it’s all a blur) progressed, it was clear that access to my usual studio spaces would no longer be viable. Rather than feel defeated, I switched to digital work and I’m so glad that I did. It has opened a whole other side to me I didn’t know existed. It has tried and tested my skills online, bettering these attributes I wasn’t sure I even had.
